Constituted Student Body
All enrolled students of the University of Hohenheim are members of the student body association, including enrolled PhD-students. Members have the right to elect a representativefrom the members themselves for the different committees (large faculty council, senate and student parliament), and the duty to pay the respective fee.
At the University of Hohenheim the student body association deals with the following tasks:
takes care of university-political, disciplinary and interdisciplinary, as well as social, economic and cultural interests of the students
participation in the university’s tasks
support/promotion of the political education and civic responsibility of the students
support/promotion of equality and reduction of discrimination within the student body
support/promotion of the student’s sport activities
fostering national and international relationships between students
The student body association is a subordinate body of the University of Hohenheim. It is legitimized through the federal university law (Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG)). Moreover the student body association in Hohenheim has developed statutes and regulations mentioned below, and is committed to them.
General Students’ Committee (AStA)
The general student’s committee (AStA) is the executive body of the student body association. The AStA is accountable towards the Student parliament and bound to its resolutions. The chair of AStA represents the student body to external parties.
AStA participates in the general tasks of the student body association with a special focus on:
- social support of students
- needs of students with children and students with handicaps
- promotion of the intellectual, artistic or sporting interests of students
- promotion of equality within the student body
- multidisciplinary matters of the students
- promotion of national and international cooperation of students
The tasks of AStA include:
- direct the current affairs of the student body
- representation of the student body to external parties
- Preparation of a budget plan proposal and the implementation of the budget plan decided by the student parliament
- Take care of and coordinating the personnel of the student body association
- Preparing and implementing the students parliaments decisions
- Communication among the different status groups, faculties and study programs as well as the coordination of student groups
AStA consists of 5 to 9 voting members. These members are elected once a year by the student parliament. For this term, two chairs are voted for by the voting members. Also non-voting persons can be in charge of a department or undertake tasks.
AStA meets once a week during the semester.
Students’ Parliament (StuPa)
The student parliament is the highest decision-making body of the student body association.
Within the student body the student parliament takes over following tasks:
- Decisions on interfaculty affairs of the student body
- Election and control of the members of AStA
- Decision on and control over budget plan, as well as voting on budget expenses above 2000 €
- Determine the semester fee for the student body association
- Announcement of one advisory member for each the senate and the different faculty councils
- Ordering the student members of the quality management funds commission (QSMK) and votes on the use of student quality management funds based on the commission’s proposal
- legislating, altering or suspending policies and ordinances
The student parliament consist of 19 voting members – 3 student members of the senate and 16 directly elected members. Each student association sends an additional advisory member/associate. The student parliament is elected once a year and the members elect a chair and two deputies from among themselves for this term.
The meetings are public and take place once a month during the semester.
The quality management funds commissions (QSMK) is a working group of the student parliament. In this commission every application for student quality management funds is negotiated. The commission works on a proposal for the use of the student quality management funds on which the student parliament votes.
The commission consist of three members per faculty. Two of these members are proposed by the student associations and confirmed by the student parliament, the third person is elected among the members of the student parliament and AStA.

Student groups comprise people at the University of Hohenheim who deal with group-specific goals and tasks. More information can be found on the respective group website.

- The group pursues non-profit aims
A minimum of seven active members
At least five active members must be enrolled at Hohenheim and 80 % of the active members must be enrolled at one of the universities in Stuttgart
The student group must be open to every enrolled student
Each active member has a passive and active right to vote. This means everyone can vote (active) or be elected for any position (passive)
The main activities of the group have to take place on campus and within the University, especially the regular meetings
The group must exist at least two semesters
The groups interests must be in conformity with the aims of the University of Hohenheim according to §2-4 LHG (Federal Law for Universities)
Recognition as a student group is contingent on the fulfilment of the criteria mentioned above (also on the form). An application must be made. It goes without saying that this application must be filled out correctly and completely. AStA votes to accept or reject the application during their meetings. For a new group it can be useful to attend this meeting in order to present the goals and tasks of the group and answer potential questions. This can accelerate and simplify the approval procedure. To maintain official status as a student group a re-registration has to take place at the beginning of the summer semester using “Rückmeldung” (Re-registration) form. Group activity and fulfilment of prerequisite criteria are examined (by AStA) during the re-registration process.
