Faculty-Level Bodies

Own faculty, own committees

These committees decide on internal faculty matters. Depending on the committee, the representatives are elected directly by the students of their faculty or appointed by the student councils.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is responsible for all faculty matters relating to research and teaching that do not fall under the purview of the dean, the Faculty Executive Board, or the leadership of the research institutions or administrative units affiliated with the faculties. 

The Faculty Council consists of:

  • ex officio members of the Faculty Executive Board (Dean’s Office)
  • all tenured professors of the faculty
  • 4 representatives of the Academic Affairs Office
  •  3 representatives of other staff members
  • 6 directly elected student representatives

Academic Committee

The Academic Committee focuses specifically on issues related to teaching. It is appointed by the Faculty Council and consists of no more than ten members, four of whom are students. The Academic Committee is chaired by the current Dean of Studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Making recommendations for the further development of courses and program structures
  • Making recommendations regarding the allocation of funds designated for academic programs and teaching
  • Evaluating teaching performance, taking into account student course evaluations
  • Assessment of candidates for habilitation and applicants for a professorship regarding their pedagogical and didactic aptitude

Examination Board

There is an Examination Board for each degree program at Hohen­heim. Students may submit requests to the Examination Board if they wish to take a second retake exam or need an extension of the deadline for submitting their thesis.

The examination committees consist of five members of the academic staff, at least three of whom are professors, as well as one student member with an advisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing examinations
  • Ensuring compliance with the examination regulations 
  • Deciding on student requests 
  • Recognizing academic achievements completed in other fields of study 
  • Deciding on accommodations for students with disabilities
