Definition
The General Students' Committee (AStA) is the executive body of the student body. The AStA is accountable to the Student Parliament (StuPa) and bound by its resolutions. The Chair of the General Students' Committee represents the student body externally.
The AStA contributes to the general tasks of the student representative body, with a particular focus on:
- social support for students
- the needs of students with children and students with disabilities
- promoting students' intellectual, artistic, and athletic interests
- promoting equality within the student body
- cross-cutting academic matters affecting students
- promoting supra-regional and international student cooperation
Tasks
The tasks of the AStA (General Student Committee) include:
- Managing the day-to-day affairs of the student body
- Representing the student body externally
- Preparing a draft budget and implementing the budget approved by the Student Parliament (StuPa)
- Supporting and coordinating the staff of the student body
- Preparing and implementing resolutions of the StuPa
- Communicating between status groups, faculties, and degree programs, as well as coordinating student groups.
Organisation
The AStA consists of 5 to 9 voting members. These are elected annually by the Student Parliament (StuPa). For their term of office, the voting members elect up to two chairpersons. Individuals who were not elected may also take on AStA portfolios and responsibilities.
The AStA meets once a week during the semester.
